African Climate Alliance Youth Network: Rules of Engagement
7 April 2025
The African Climate Alliance is a youth-led movement based organisation advocating and acting for climate, ecological and social justice. We believe in a future defined by environmental and social justice. To achieve this we aim to deliver dynamic, Afrocentric environmental education and action, while creating a safe and inclusive space for youth in Africa.
Our ACA Youth Network is the community core of our organisation. Our organisation was founded by a small group of school-going youth who took issue with the status quo. So, when we describe ourselves as “youth-led”, this extends beyond our organisational team and means that our work is guided by the needs, visions, and contexts of the young people in our Youth Network.
The ACA Youth Network is a space for young people across Africa, where we aim to act and advocate for climate justice whilst inclusively building up and amplifying youth voices across sectors of society, bridging connections to create inter-generational organising potential through an Afrocentric perspective.
We know that sometimes engaging in groups online can be difficult but we encourage you to engage in the network and share questions, opportunities, thoughts, concerns, and interesting information. The more we collaborate the better. Please feel free to engage in your home language and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Note: Please note that being a part of the ACA Youth Network does not limit you from joining other organisations. Being a movement-based organisation means that we encourage connections in the space and acknowledge that change-making is a collective effort.
Please keep the following guidelines in mind at all times, so that we can keep this group a safe and supportive space.
Rules of Engagement:
Treat all with the respect and dignity that you wish to be treated with.
Zero tolerance for hate speech, harassment, bullying, and discrimination of any sort.
No distribution of pornography or explicit material.
Please refrain from posting graphic or violent visual content on this group, as we may not always be aware of each other’s triggers.
Keep an open mind, considering you are engaging with many people from different backgrounds.
No silent objectors. Express your discomfort in a respectful manner.
Practice care for your impact. Be mindful of power dynamics, be compassionate, and be non-aggressive when you engage and share.
Please note:
If at any point you breach these rules of engagement you may be subjected to removal from the ACA Youth Network. These rules extend to your general, personal online presence as we reserve the right to remove you from this group if we notice you sharing bigoted views, discriminatory commentary, etc. on your personal online platforms.
